17 Again is a new musical based on the popular 2009 film starring Zac Efron and Matthew Perry, with music and lyrics by the Broadway team of Alan Zachary and Michael Weiner (First Date) and a book by Marco Pennette (Ugly Betty, Mom). Former high school basketball star Mike O’Donnell is 35 with a marriage that has soured, estranged teenage children, and a recently delivered “you’re fired” slip. When he magically steps back into his 17-year-old self, he thinks it is his chance to do over the basketball career he abandoned. To his surprise, he finds a richer and more profound truth: his love for his wife and children. He realizes he wants to fix their problems even if it means not returning to be the husband and father he wishes he had been. 17 Again, the Musical features catchy tunes, recognizable high school characters and situations, and an upbeat message about love and taking responsibility for your family.

The original 2009 film is rated PG-13, however NPHS Theatre has chosen to use alternate scenes suggested by the authors, and some of the film scenes have been omitted or reworked into songs. The musical includes mature language and situations. The choices made by the characters resolving the situations are responsible and appropriate. Parents are recommended to read about or watch the original film to make an informed decision about bringing their children.
