*Below are the approximate blocks of time for daily instruction K-6. The exact periods of when these blocks will occur will be based on the individual master schedule for each elementary school. All grades will begin the day with a morning meeting at the start of the day. This is a sample of how the instructional minutes will flow throughout the day.

Glossary of Terms

Asynchronous: online assignments via Canvas. Other activities may include offline activities which could also be completed during this time such as doing hands-on and/or paper and pencil activities.

Synchronous: Direct live instruction to the whole group of students or to a small group of students based on instructional need.

Small group instruction: Synchronous/live differentiated instruction provided to approximately 4-8 students based on instructional need

Morning meeting: The start of the instructional day designed to build community in the classroom. This time is also used to address students' social and emotional well being.

Responsive Classroom- A philosophy designed around community building and developing interpersonal relationships with classmates. Activities include a daily greeting and class meeting to develop a positive mindset.

Second Step- Our social and emotional curriculum which includes a 30-minute whole group lesson on Monday with supplemental daily activities such as games, activities, and media which are utilized throughout the week. This instruction addresses topics such as empathy, cooperation, problem-solving, etc. Second Step is aligned to the Social Emotional Learning Competencies (SEL).

Exploration Stations: (Kindergarten only) Time period for students to work on fine and gross motor skills as directed by the teacher.

Specials: 45-minute block of the instructional day when art, music, physical education, or library instruction will be delivered. Specials will remain the same for 9 weeks.
